© The Art of Door 2012 Proceeds to Benefit a Fight Against Breast Cancer In Brad’s family, breast cancer is a common occurrence.  His maternal grandmother had breast cancer in the ‘70’s.  His mother had two separate operations to remove cancerous lumps.  Two of his aunts have had breast cancer.  Likewise, two of his sister have had breast cancer and mastectomies. Currently, his sister is fighting her second bout with breast cancer.  In 2001, she had a mastectomy.  At that time, she had health insurance, which covered the costs, but now, she’s not so lucky. In 2009, she was diagnosed with cancer again.  She no longer has health insurance, and for the past three years, she has tried alternative methods and medicines, which has only kept the cancer at bay.  In October 2012, she was able to find a surgeon who would perform a mastectomy on the remaining breast, but the costs of the surgery and the likelihood of expensive chemotherapy has put a strain on her family’s budget. Brad has chosen to share proceeds from the sale of The Art of Door to help his sister with her medical expenses.  If he is able to help her pay off these expenses, he wants to continue using the sales in helping others who are fighting this terrible disease.
